Andra Gillum is a the author of the Doggy Drama series of books featuring  Doggy Drama, Puppy Drama, Old Doggy Drama, Lost Doggy Drama and Doghouse Drama.  Andra is a dog lover!  All of her books are about her real westies, Riley, Lucy and Rosy.  Andra believes that books are reading should be fun, and book should make you laugh.  Her stories reflect the silly “sibling rivalry” drama between her dogs.  They also feature her real children, Max and Mia.

As a little girl, Andra’s first dog was a westie named Buttons who was nicknamed Bugie (for some strange reason).  Since then, Andra has had 5 more westies: Maxie, Riley, Lucy and Rosy.  They have each touched her heart in a different way.

All the books in the Doggy Drama series are based on true (well, true-ish) stories of the dogs real adventures.  A little extra mischief and humor are added in!

Andra has always loved to write, and started making books with construction paper and staples when she was in elementary school.  Andra studied English at Wittenberg University (as well as Business because her Dad insisted). She has been writing ads, newspaper columns, and finally children's books ever since!

In her free-time, Andra loves to read and write and take the dogs for long walks.  She also loves to Jazzercise with friends.  Andra was inspired to write chldren's books when her children were small.  Each night, they could choose three books to read before bed.  Of course, they always chose the longest one that they could find.

Andra loves to make school visits, and read and write with children!  She also teaches a variety of writing  classes to kids, adults and seniors.  All of her classes are meant to be fun!  Contact her at directly at andragillum@gmail.com to discuss school visits or teaching opportunities.

WRITERS Workshops & Author Visits

I love to visit schools and interact with the students!  My writing workshops give the kids a chance to brainstorm and begin to write their own “drama story”!  My author visits offer a very personal touch.  I prefer to spend several days in each school so that I can really connect with the kids and staff.  At some schools, we have done a full week of author-in-residence writing workshops.  My visits are also very low maintenance for the school staff.  Just give me a schedule and I'll take it from there.  All visits are customized to suit the age and curriculum, and I always allow time for plenty of questions.   Writing and reading should be creative and fun!

“Andra made reading and the writing process fun for our kids!”

  • Bobbi Lohiser, Librarian, Toll Gate Elementary

“Andra was an absolute delight to have at our building.  She was so easy to work with and schedule in classes.  The students were thrilled to have a real-life author walking our hallways and listening to their stories and writing experiences too.  Any classroom and student could benefit from a visit from her."

  • Missy McCoy, Literacy Coordinator, Stiles Elementary

Presentations emphasize the importance of self-discipline (editing and re-writes) and perseverance.  Writing workshops focused on personification, character development, timelines, idea webs/brainstorming, etc. are also available.  Very affordable fees - Starting at just $250 per day.  I am available during the school day or for evening events.  E-mail andragillum@gmail.com for more information or to schedule an event!
